Verifying Your Domain

Note: You will be unable to verify your domain unless it is properly pointed towards your HostGator account. Please verify that your domain is pointed correctly before continuing with this tutorial.
  1. To verify your domain and account information you will need to be logged into your SiteLock account which can be done through your cPanel:

    1. Login to cPanel
    2. Click on the SiteLock icon in Special Offers section.
    3. Click on Access SiteLock next to the domain you wish to access.
  2. Once logged in, you will be looking at your Dashboard. Look for the following verification notices shown in the picture below.

  3. Click on 'Verify Domain' and you will see the following dialog box:

  4. There are two ways you can verify your domain. We recommend the first option because it is easier and avoids using code that can break scripts if implemented incorrectly. Click the link in ‘Step1’ in the dialog box to download the html file to your computer. Remember where you save this file; it will generally default to your Downloads Folder.

  5. Once the file is downloaded, with your SiteLock Dashboard still open, log in to your HostGator cPanel. Open the 'File Manager' located in the 'Files' section of your cPanel.

  6. 'File Manager Directory Selector' should pop up. Select ‘web root’ to access your /public_html directory. You can also find this by opening your home directory and navigating to public_html.

  7. Once you're in the correct directory, public_html, select ‘upload’ located at the top of File Manager. You should see the following screen to upload the verification file.

Select the downloaded html file from your computer, click okay and the upload will begin. You will see a green status bar in the bottom right of the screen showing the progress of the upload.

  8. When the upload is complete, go back to your SiteLock Dashboard to finalize the verification. Click 'Verify Domain' to bring back the dialog box and click the link in ‘Step 2’. SiteLock will crawl your site to find the verification file you uploaded and successfully verify your domain.
Note: If you are having trouble getting your domain verified, double check that all the steps were correctly completed and that your domain is pointed to your HostGator account. If you are still unable to verify the domain, contact HostGator live support and we will work with you to verify the file is correctly uploaded. You can also submit a support ticket directly to SiteLock using the 'Support' link at the top of your SiteLock Dashboard.
