How to Backup a Database - Plesk

Create a backup using the Plesk Backup Manager

To create a backup using the Plesk Backup Manager:

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to the Control Panel of the desired domain.
  3. From the Websites & Domains tab select the Backup Manager:

  4. From the Tools section select Database Backup Repository:

  5. Select the Back Up option.
  6. Select the database to backup and define a name for the backup file.
  7. Click OK.

Download a database backup from the Plesk Control Panel

The Plesk Backup Manager does not have an option for exporting database backups. Follow the steps below to use phpMyAdmin for database-only exports in Plesk.

Step 1: Access phpMyAdmin

VPS and Dedicated Server

  1. Log into the Plesk control panel.
  2. Click the Domains link in the navigation bar (in the upper, left-hand portion of the page).
  3. Find the domain containing the database you wish to export.
  4. Select Open in Control Panel.
  5. Click on the Website & Domains tab.
  6. In the list of functions, click on Databases.
  7. Click on the database you wish to access.
  8. In the Tools section, click on WebAdmin.

Windows Shared

  1. Log into the Plesk control panel.
  2. Click on the Website & Domains tab.
  3. In the list of functions, click on Databases.
  4. Click on the database you wish to access.
  5. In the Tools section, click on WebAdmin.

This will open phpMyAdmin, giving you administrative access to the database you selected.

Step 2: Export Database from phpMyAdmin

If you are coming directly from the Plesk interface (using the instructions above), the existing database will already be selected in phpMyAdmin.

To export the database from phpMyAdmin:

  1. Click Export from the top menu.
  2. Leave the current settings as they are.
  3. Click the checkbox for Save as file.
  4. Click Go.

A .sql file will be downloaded directly to the local machine.
