What is a Script?

In the world of web design and programming, script describes a pre-made coding language used by developers and web designers to perform specific tasks on a website, create a specific appearance or perform multiple functions automatically such as sending out predefined emails. Scripts can be written in a number of server-side languages such as ASP, Java, Javascript, Perl, PHP, Python or Ruby.

Scripting Errors

With such a wide variety of scripting languages available, coinciding with various personalized extensions and addons, troubleshooting issues with most scripts can be quite tedious, if not impossible. Scripting errors related to custom coding that cannot correctly parse on the server can have numerous end results and errors including:

  • Error messages
  • 500 Internal Server Error messages
  • Numerous PHP processes being spawned
  • High CPU usage (this can result in a Terms of Service violation and possible suspension of your site until the script is fixed)
  • Damage to your site content and/or databases

Due to these potential issues, HostGator strongly recommends that you contact a professional developer experienced in your particular script before attempting to run the script on your site.

Scope of Support

HostGator agents are not trained in third party script support, therefore we may not be able to resolve certain issues related to custom coding and scripting errors. In any case, we will gladly take a look and offer as much help as possible.

While HostGator can assist with installation and troubleshooting of certain scripts found in cPanel such as WordPress, Joomla and Magento, we may be unable to assist with custom configuration or design issues. WordPress and Joomla themes and plugins are also considered third party scripts as they contain various types of PHP coding which may be incompatible with our version of WordPress or our server environment.
