cURL

cURL is a command line based tool that allows for the transferring of data with a URL type syntax. cURL supports most file protocols such as FTP, FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, POP3, SCP and SMTP just to name a few. cURL's counterpart, Wget, is for the retrieval of the same file protocols. The GET command, brother of the Wget command, performs a similar task of retrieving read-only versions of the files being transferred.

How to Get cURL

cURL, GET and Wget are enabled on all HostGator servers by default. No further action to activate these functions are necessary.

Should you experience any issues using cURL, GET or Wget, please contact us via phone or Live Chat.

How to Use cURL

You will need SSH access to your account if you wish to manage cURL directly via the command line.

If you do not have SSH enabled on your account, please refer to the following article:

You can run the cURL binaries without SSH access via a cron job or by using the cURL binary in a system call in PHP or Perl.

Note: When cURL applications make a secure connection, they are NOT required to pass through a proxy server.
