Publishing Issues

First, Refresh the webpage in your browser.

All website files must be inside the public_html folder.
Your home page should be named index.html (all lower-case).
Broken images may be in the wrong folder. Also the file name may not match what is in the HTML code.

Note: Site Studio requires the domain name to be fully propogated and resolving to Hostgator.
Site Studio support is at www.psoft.net/ssdoc/help.html

Note: Some FrontPage extensions may not be supported. cPanel will only support publishing with Microsoft FrontPage 2000 and newer versions.

I am rather new to HostGator, but have used 1and1 very much. When I update my index.html file via FTP client, the new home page does not show up, even when I hit F5 to refresh my browser. I can see only the old home page.
I uploaded the new file again, from within the HostGator panel, via your online FTP, but still no new web page. The file dates on the server reflect today's date. The new page was uploaded five hours ago, and still no change. I'm stumped.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.

The problem is that you already have a defined index page (possibly index.php or index.htm).

The best solution is to edit your .htaccess file and tell it to use index.html as your default page.

Read all about this by searching "Directory Index". http://support.hostgator.com/articles/directory-index

file timestamps change on FTP upload
WHM site using cPanel. When uploading file the file date is changed from the actual file creation date to the current date. Filezilla's "Preserve Timestamp" setting make no difference. A Filezilla forum entry says that timestamps cannot by preserved using ftp if the host does not support certain protocols, or something like that.

Seems that files dates we preserved in the past. I don't know what's going on. Any suggestions?

The Pure-FTP daemon doesn't support MDTM.

If you upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server, you can run ProFTPd which supports that.

I hired an outside programmer to try to clone a model PHP site. It didn't work. Now I'd like to return everything to what it was originally when the account was opened (except emails), deleting all folders and files installed by the programmer and replacing any folders and files that were modified or deleted. Is there any way to do a complete reset of all files and folders like this?

HostGator
The only way to do that is make a backup of your account before the programmer touches it. The we can restore to the backup.

However, if you are happy to have EVERYTHING reset (including emails) please read http://support.hostgator.com/articles/restore-account-from-beginning-original-setup

@Robert, I recommend you do a full backup in cPanel, then follow the link I typed here and request us to wipe everything (this will include emails). Then you can submit the form at http://hostgator.com/restore and ask us to restore only the email accounts and emails.
