How to Manage Optimized WordPress FTP Accounts

This article will cover the following options for managing FTP accounts for an Optimized WordPress installation:

  1. Create an Account
  2. Login to an Account
  3. Change Password
  4. Change Quota
  5. Delete an Account

Create an Account

To create a new FTP account for an Optimized WordPress installation:

  1. Login to your Billing Account.
  2. Click the Hosting tab.
  3. Select your Optimized WordPress account from the dropdown menu if it is not already selected.
  4. Click the Gear icon next to the desired WordPress site.
  5. Click the icon labeled Manage FTP.
  6. Click the Create a new FTP account button.
  7. Select the prefix for your username and provide a password or select to have a password generated for you.
  8. Click the Create Account button.

Login to an Account

Using an FTP account is identical to FTP on any other HostGator server. Simply use your preferred FTP software with the following settings:

  • Host: Either use your Account IP from the installation or a domain that is pointed to that IP address.
  • Username: Use the username you provided when creating the account along with the domain of the installation as your full username:
    Example: username@domain.com
  • Password: Use the password you provided when creating the account or when most recently resetting the password.
  • Port: 21

Change Password

To change the password for an Optimized WordPress FTP account:

  1. Login to your Billing Account.
  2. Click the Hosting tab.
  3. Select your Optimized WordPress account from the dropdown menu if it is not already selected.
  4. Click the Gear icon next to the desired WordPress site.
  5. Click the icon labeled Manage FTP.
  6. Click the Gear icon next to the desired FTP account.
  7. Click the Change FTP Password icon.
  8. Enter the desired password or use the password generator to make a secure password for you.
  9. Click the Change Password button.

You will now be able to use your new password to log into your FTP account.

Change Quota

By default an Optimized WordPress FTP account is set to unlimited quota, however you may restrict the account to a limited transfer per month. To set a quota for an FTP account:

  1. Login to your Billing Account.
  2. Click the Hosting tab.
  3. Select your Optimized WordPress account from the dropdown menu if it is not already selected.
  4. Click the Gear icon next to the desired WordPress site.
  5. Click the icon labeled Manage FTP.
  6. Click the Gear icon next to the desired FTP account.
  7. Click the Change FTP Quota icon.
  8. Uncheck the No Quota (Unlimited) checkbox.
  9. Enter the desired quota in Megabytes.
  10. Click the Change Quota.

To undo this change, simply follow the steps again and place a checkmark in the No Quota (Unlimited) checkbox before clicking the Change Quota button.

Delete an Account

To delete an Optimized WordPress FTP account:

  1. Login to your Billing Account.
  2. Click the Hosting tab.
  3. Select your Optimized WordPress account from the dropdown menu if it is not already selected.
  4. Click the Gear icon next to the desired WordPress site.
  5. Click the icon labeled Manage FTP.
  6. Click the Gear icon next to the desired FTP account.
  7. Click the Delete FTP Account icon.
  8. Place a checkmark next to the "Yes, I give permission to delete this ftp account." checkbox.
  9. Click the Delete this FTP Account button.
