Too many SMTP connections?

We limit 25 concurrent connections per your IP address.

If you are getting this error, then too many people in your office are using the POP/IMAP mail client to send emails.

Solutions

Either wait until less people are sending email from your network, or login to webmail and send from there.

Starting at 26 people, but you normally will not have problems until there are significantly more.

Unless they are using Macs. Mac Mail apparently creates a lot more concurrent connections, especially it appears when using IMAP. So a small office of seven accounts regularly exceeds the 25 limit. What is worse is that it is not a soft limit that affects just email, but a hard one that immediately takes down your site with a server error. Surely there must be a way of increasing this limit, or making exceeding it less catastrophic?

That is an issue specific to Mac Mail. I recommend using anything but Mac Mail.
