Many of our customers use Joomla, and there is an option in Joomla which allows you to use sendmail. Here is a guide to assist you.
If there is no option for a script to use Sendmail, then we can whitelist your cPanel username, instead. Please contact HostGator via live chat or phone for assistance.

1. Under mail settings in Joomla! change the mailer to Sendmail.
2. For the mail from address I used an email address on my site (This may not be a required step).
This setup worked for me.
