How to change the password of an e-mail account

I recommend to change your password at least once a month. To do so, please do the following:

Change via Webmail

The person who uses this email account would typically use this method.  They must already know the password to be able to change it.

  1. Login to Webmail.
  2. Click the Change Password button.
  3. In the box to the right of Password, type the new password for the email address.
  4. In the box to the right of Password (again) type the new password again.
  5. Click Change Password button.

Change via cPanel

If the user of the email account cannot change it via webmail (for example, they forgot their password), you can also change the email password via cPanel without knowing what the email password used to be.

  1. Log into cPanel
  2. Click Email Accounts
  3. Click the Change Password button to the right of an email address for which you would like to change the email password for.
  4. In the box to the right of Password, type the new password for the email address.
  5. In the box to the right of Password (again) type the new password again.
  6. Click Change Password button

You have now successfully changed your email password.

Is there a URL for the actual recipients to reset their own password without requiring support from the hosting account holder?

HostGator
If the email user lost his or her password, they must contact the cPanel user to have the password reset.

Once logged in, the email user can change the password.

as site administrator after changing a password for an email account can i then go in and read the email in that account?

HostGator
Yes, you can do exactly that.

Just realize you won't be able to revert the password, so the email user will notice his password was changed.

Is there anyway you can actually retrieve the set password instead of re-setting it?

HostGator
No, not in any way endorsed by HostGator.

I would like to set up a domain redirect for my client's webmail users, which will bypass the selection of the mail program, and therefor they will never see the button that allows the user to change their own password. Is there any other way to allow the end user to modify their own password, either with a special page for that purpose, or can I create a php page for that purpose on the client's web site?

HostGator
Just like you will create a redirect to the webmail URL, you can also create a redirect to the password change button (not a password reset).

Just visit the screen where you see the Change Password icon, and copy that link location. Mine is http://domain1.com:2095/webmail/x3/mail/passwdpop.html?redirectdomain=&email=james&domain=domain1.com

Webmail is only in english? Can be Spanish?
Thanks.

HostGator
Webmail can be in Spanish or any other language provided by rvSkins; however, you must have a reseller plan to get this feature.

We cannot provide rvSkins on shared web hosting, and you will need to pay for the license on a VPS or dedicated server.

Is there anyway to set up an email account for a client and as the CPanel manager not have access to their email?

HostGator
No, the cPanel user has access to everything inside cPanel, including databases, web content, and emails.

(However, the cPanel user would have to change the email's password to gain access, and then the email user would notice.)
