How can I setup webmail to go directly to Horde, SquirrelMail or RoundCube?

  1. Login to the webmail program you prefer. You can get there by going to your-domain.com/webmail. You'll need to login using a username (which is the full email address) and password.

  2. Once you have logged into webmail, click on the webmail program of your choice.

  3. Copy the url in your address bar. It will look something like:

    http://your-domain.com:2095/3rdparty/roundcube/index.php

    http://your-domain.com:2095/horde/login.php

    http://your-domain.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/src/login.php

  4. Note: You must replace your-domain.com with your actual domain name in the above examples.

  5. Once you have the URL you'll be wanting to use, login to your cPanel.

  6. In cPanel, setup a subdomain called something like myemail.your-domain.com (you can do this by clicking on the "subdomains" icon in cPanel). Do NOT use mail.your-domain.com as these particular subdomains are already in use on the server and attempting to use them as subdomains can result in conflicts.

  7. After you've setup the subdomain in your cPanel, setup a "redirect" for the subdomain (by clicking on the "subdomains" icon). You will need to setup the redirect so the subdomain goes to the URL of the webmail program of your choice.

This has given me an undersanding of webmail. Is there any way I can change the password on an existing webmail log in?

HostGator
You can reset the password via cPanel > Email Accounts icon. Find the email address and there is a Change Password icon to the right.

Individual email users can also change their password, but they must have the correct password to login first, and the icon is found on the page where you choose the webmail program. (So, you must go to the normal domain.com/webmail to see it.)

I got a new laptop the other week. One of the last things i did on the old one was move everything I needed in my Inbox in Horde, into a new folder....and now.....my mail goes to the NEW folder and is driving me crazy. Also, email people send me no longer go to my email address, it goes to a different one that I don't recall making but it's not a legit email address so it bounces back when they send it to me unless they email me from my store, then it comes to my email address I want it to). This is ridiculous! Under identities, I have tried everything in the options section to correct this, but no luck! What can I do! I run a store! I need to make all new emails I receive go to my inbox and make sure that when people reply to an email it comes to the right email! thank you for your time!

This could be caused by any custom email settings; you may have a forwarder, a filter, or other features enabled which cause this problem.

This works great, but when the user logsout with the logout button, the user is presented with a choice of access of each different webmail client and the hostgator header, how can we change that page or redirect back to the webmail login without that header and client options.

HostGator
The problem is when the user clicks the "Click here to log in again" link. This link can only take users to the email's-domain:2095.

I will contact cPanel to see what can be done in the future.

I setup the above instruction for horde. Is there anyway to access the webmail without having to log in at cpanel? The intention is not give info of cpanel to others assign to just read email.

HostGator
Yes, just use your-domain.com/webmail for all users. This does not require them to login to cPanel.

i tried it as you said and the redirction worked but it does not ask for password and username to login, it just login straight without any authentication. pls what can i do to correct this

HostGator
Sounds like you need to log out of webmail first, then try the link.

If you still need more proof that your link works, ask someone else (or you yourself) try it at another computer.

on my cPanel I do not see an icon or the word subdomain. what am i doing wrong?

HostGator
Use Ctrl F to find that word on the page (or select Edit > Find from the browser menu bar).

If you still do not see "Subdomain", that feature may be disabled by your host. Contact your host to see if they will enable this icon.

go to C Panel, click email accounts, click the dropdown that says 'More' next to the email account you want to access directly (right click on Access Email link, choose copy link address) Use that link to make a shortcut and save your password in the browser. Voila, direct email checking (no subdomain necessary)

This is very helpful. Not even my web developer gave me this answer on how to go directly to squirrelmail.
