Does your email client suddenly claim your password is wrong, even though you have not changed any settings?

All of our shared servers have a 30 check per hour per IP address limit. If you hit this limit in any hour you'll be locked out for the rest of the hour.

Solution: You will need to disable the automatic checking for new emails. If you do not want to disable it, just set it to check less often. Keep in mind the more computers you have automatically checking and/or manually checking the mail, the quicker you will hit this limit.

I need multiple users to often check email on the same domain!

If you have a company or business which checks email often, then you will need the resources of a VPS or Dedicated Server plan.

Is that a 30 per hour check per EMAIL address or per domain (all addresses on that domain?)

HostGator
The limit is per customer's connecting IP address.

Lish
Does "per customer" mean per domain? So if we have 10 email accounts, each person can only check emails 6 times an hour?

How do we disable the auto checking?

HostGator
There is no limit "per customer" or "per domain". The limit is per IP address.

You can disable auto checking by referencing the Help menu in your mail client.

John
How many people share an IP address? Presumably this means that if there someone else using the same IP who checks every minute, noone else can?

HostGator
You are probably thinking of the shared IP that HostGator provides with your hosting. Well that is not the same IP we are talking about in this article.

We are talking about your connecting IP, which is provided by your internet service. It is not very likely for any conflict.
