How can I transfer my Blogger site to HostGator hosting?

Since Blogger (blogspot) isn't an actual hosting company, there's no real way to transfer the site from Blogger to your account with us directly.

However, Blogger has a feature which will allow you to migrate your content via a zipped file.

They have a FAQ entry on how to accomplish it here.

Additionally, as of version 2.2, WordPress supports importing directly from your blogger account:

Simply install WordPress from Fantastico in your cPanel.

Then in your WordPress Admin area (domain.com/wp-admin), go to Manage → Import → Blogger and follow the directions to complete the import.

site url not showing up in current installations = can not visit site/wordpress, why?

New Installation (2.8.4)
Disk space required: 9.04 MB
Disk space available: 999988.5 MB

Current installations:

/ (2.8.4) Visit site Remove

HostGator
If you have no installations, then you will see under Current installations: None.

However, I see you do have a current installation. The / is the installation on your primary domain name. Simply click "Visit Site" to see the full URL in your address bar.

I currently have a domain hosted by Hostgator as a standard website with html pages. Can I create a WordPress blog as a part of that domain? I currently have my blog in the blogger platform and would like to attach it to the website it supports.

HostGator
You can create an Addon or Subdomain name to use for your WordPress site.

Then, you may install WordPress from Fantastico DeLuxe and import your blog. Just follow the steps above.

The problem with simply importing your blog from blogger into your newly created Wordpress blog is that blogger will not re-direct your old blogger URL to your new domain automatically. Consequence is that any page rank and or links you have to your blog become defunct and you are basically starting again from scratch albeit with a lot of content.

Is there any way to get to the cpanel to review stats and page views within a blogger site? I have it hosted on hostgator (babycroc acct) - but the cpanel shows nothing, We want to see page rank - etc.
There is quite a bit of content on the site and it would be difficult to move unless a server to server transfer was done.
Thank you,

HostGator
You need to host that site on a HostGator server in order to use the AWstats program.

I'm currently using Statcounter and Sitemeter to track my traffic on Blogger site. I also have hundreds of inbound links to the site.

What happens to this information if I change over to my Hostgator domain?

Will I have to do any other configuring when I post to articles?

Thanks in advance!

HostGator
I am not sure what you mean by "change over to my Hostgator domain".

If you move your web site to HostGator's hosting, but keep the same domain name, then nothing will happen to your inbound links and site stats.

If you change your site's name to a new domain name, then your inbound links may not work anymore, but your site stats should continue working (but they will record under the new domain).

I am currently hosting my site within a separate ecommerce platform - I'd like to host the site on hostgator with Wordpress as the base instead with a link to my store which I know is possible, but I want to build everything out first before transferring the nameservers. So how will I install wordpress and access wordpress since the normal access to wordpress is through siteurl.com/wp-admin. Just want to make sure I can do this.

How can I set Blogger's domain to my domain @hostgator ?

HostGator
Yes, this can be done. Please consult the article called "How to transfer hosting with no down time."

Additionally, you will need to change the WordPress domain setting to your temporary URL so you can preview the blog on our servers, then revert back when you are ready to update the nameservers. Please consult the article called "WordPress Home Fix".

What happens after blog transfer to a domain? I mean If i want to edit content or add new files...etc.. how will it be possible to appear than on website? or every time i have a little "update" on blog i must upload everything again on site?

HostGator
You won't need to do anything. Once you transfer the blog to your new domain at HostGator, any posts or comments will update at HostGator and not Blogger.

When you want to upload files or new themes, upload them to the HostGator account (via FTP, file manager, or shell). Blogger simply won't be used or updated anymore.

Hi, I have a blog hosted on blogger.com and I want to switch to a hostgator planning host. My question is, after I switch to your hosting plan, how would I be able to modify my template, widgets, etc, if I don't have any longer access to the blogger account? Thank's .

HostGator
It is still a WordPress blog, so you will be able to manage it via the wp-admin section.
