HostGator Backup System

Please remember that our backups are intended for emergency situations. You should not rely on our backups as the only copy of your content.

Accounts found to be exceeding the 100,000 inode limit will automatically be removed from our backup system to avoid over-usage.

Any shared account using more than 20 gigs of disk space will be removed from our off site weekly backup, with the the exception of databases continuing to be backed up.

Raman
Does this mean that I cannot create a script of my own and run with cron to make my own backups automatically in a shared account?
If yes, then does this policy also bars plugins like wordpress db backup or wordpress backup that generate wordpress backups automatically?

HostGator
No, you may create and use a backup script if you know how. The reason we discourage using a backup script with a cron job on a shared server is because it is too easy to violate the TOS that way.

- Must not run the cron more often than every 15 minutes.
- Must not create backups of backups.

So, if you are very careful to remove previous backups before the cron runs, and it doesn't run too often, then you should be good.
