Uptime Guarantee

Important: The Terms of Service, section 9b, has the full details and accurate information which is updated. This article only seeks to help explain the rules to which you agree.

  • If a shared or reseller server has more than 0.1% downtime during any month, you may receive one month of credit for that hosting plan.
  • Approval of the credit is at the discretion of HostGator, dependant upon our records.
  • Server maintenance does not count as downtime.
  • Just because your website does not work, this does not mean your server has downtime. As long as the server is available to deliver your content, then the guarantee is met. It is your responsibility to have working content.
  • To request a credit, please contact sales@hostgator.com with justification. All requests must be made in writing via email.
  • Uptime guarantees only apply to shared webhosting and reseller account owners. Dedicated servers are covered by a separate and unique network guarantee.

Network Guarantee for Dedicated

  • The network guarantee is not related to our uptime guarantee.
  • Dedicated servers are covered by a network guarantee in which the credit is prorated for the amount of time the server is down.
  • Server maintenance does not count as downtime.
  • Just because your website does not work, this does not mean our network has downtime. As long as the network is available, then the guarantee is met.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that there is a valid email address and current root password on file for your dedicated server to prevent downtime from forced password resets.
  • HostGator reserves the right to audit servers as needed and to perform administrative actions at the request of our datacenter.

How much server maintenance time do you have a month? I ask since that is not covered by the guarantee. You might mention this in the article above.

HostGator
Normally, none. The downtime you experience on shared servers is usually caused by another user who is violating the Terms of Service.

If we must plan maintenance on your sever, we announce this in our public forums and via your RSS feed in cPanel.
