What qualifies me for a free transfer?

HostGator provides free transfers for new accounts within 30 days of sign-up, and to newly upgraded accounts. For upgraded accounts it must be an inter-server upgrade to qualify. Please note that downgraded accounts do not qualify for free transfers.

Depending on which type of account you sign up for, we offer differing numbers of free transfers. Please refer to the chart below to see what we include for new packages.

Full cPanel Transfers is the number of cPanel to cPanel transfers that are included.
Max. Manual Transfers is the maximum number of Manual Transfers that are included with your account.
Total Free Transfers is the total number websites that we will move for you.

¹ While we can do unlimited cPanel to cPanel transfers for you, depending on your account, you will have a limited number of Manual Transfers.

² Full cPanel transfers include all domains, Addon Domains, Subdomains, and cPanel settings. This will also include your emails and email accounts. Please note that this does require that your old host's cPanel backup generator to be active.

A few examples: An Aluminum Reseller account includes up to 30 free transfers. Out of this 30, you can have 20 cPanel to cPanel transfers and 10 Manual Transfers, or any combination of the two that totals 30 or less websites. Another example: A Pro Dedicated server includes unlimited cPanel to cPanel transfers, this means you can have 150 sites (or even more) moved. Also since there is an unlimited total number of transfers, you can utilize up to 100 Manual Transfers.

We can move one site or one cPanel per C-Class IP in your plan. What that means is if you have a "30 C-Class" account, you can have up to 30 websites/cPanels transferred.

VPS Transfers

(Level 3-9 with a control panel)

VPS accounts that have cPanel qualify for unlimited cPanel to cPanel transfers, or up to 10 Manual Transfers per VPS level. Plesk transfers all all considered manual style transfers. I.E. a Level 5 VPS qualifies for 50 manual transfers, while a Level 7 qualifies for 70 manual transfers.

(Level 1-2 or VPS without a control panel)

VPS accounts with no control panel are for advanced Linux customers who are comfortable with installing and configuring services. If you would like us to transfer data to such a VPS (or a Dedicated server with no control panel), you would be responsible for making sure that the VPS services are configured correctly, as well as provide HostGator with instructions on exactly where the data needs to be placed. We will not configure or restore anything, but only copy files or packages to the specified directory on the VPS/server. If you are not comfortable with installing and configuring services, we suggest upgrading to a Level 3 plan with cPanel.

Dedicated Transfers

(Basic)

We provide 75 free website transfers. The content transfers are free within the first 30 days; for any requests outside the first 30 days, we will reply back with a quoted price.

If the server is running cPanel and you are coming from another cPanel server, then we offer unlimited full cPanel account transfers.

We provide 100 website transfers. The content transfers are free within the first 30 days; for any requests outside the first 30 days, we will reply back with a quoted price.

What if I do not qualify for a free transfer, but I still want my sites moved?

Even if you do no qualify for a free transfer from our Transfers team, we can still move your sites, however you will be provided a price quote, please refer to the following and to request a quote email transfers@hostgator.com. Please note that we cannot provide quotes over our Phone or Chat Support.

Are there any sites that HostGator simply cannot move?

Unfortunately while HostGator has a well trained and very experienced transfers team, some sites due to technical limitations cannot be moved. Our current list of sites/hosts which we cannot transfer from is as follows:

• SMCing.com
• Intuit
• Wix
• Website Tonight
• Google Sites
• Office Live Small Business / Office 365

We also cannot transfer from hosts that do not allow access to your website files (typically by FTP) and/or databases and/or the data in those databases. Without access, we cannot copy and transfer your site.

Types of Transfers

Inter-server Transfers

An Inter-server transfer is a transfer between two physical servers. A few examples of this are from an old hosting account to a new account at HostGator a Shared to a Reseller account; a Reseller to VPS account; Shared, Reseller, VPS to a Dedicated server. To qualify for a free transfer, the inter-server upgrade must be to a plan with an equal or higher cost.

Example 1: You are moving from a Business account ($14.95 per month) to a Level 3 VPS with Plesk ($44.95 per month). You will get free content transfers.

Example 2: You are moving from a Business account ($14.95 per month) to a Level 1 VPS ($19.95 per month and no possibility for cPanel/Plesk). You will be responsible for moving your own data (because)there is no cPanel or Plesk on that VPS plan).

Example 3: You are moving from a Diamond reseller account ($99.95 per month) to a Level 3 VPS with cPanel ($49.95 per month). You will be responsible for moving your own data.

Example 4: You are moving from a Basic dedicated server ($174 per month) to a Level 4 VPS ($69.95 per month). You will be responsible for moving your own data.

Example 5: You are moving from a Silver reseller ($49.95 per month) to a Level 3 VPS with cPanel ($49.95 per month). You will get free content transfers.

Intra-server Transfers

An Intra-server transfer is a "transfer" between accounts on the same server. This includes upgrades such as a Baby to Business, Aluminum Reseller to Copper Reseller, and VPS level 4 to level 6. These are "in-place" upgrades, no files are moved and the limits of your account are simply raised.

Manual Transfers

Manual Transfers include most things that are not cPanel to cPanel transfers. Additionally this includes work such as splitting addon domains into cPanel accounts. A few examples are: Transferring from a host without cPanel, moving from a Baby package to a Reseller and moving addon domains into new cPanel sub-accounts, addon domain to addon domain, cPanel account to addon domain, addon domain to cPanel account, anything that cannot be packaged and then restored with no additional work.

Downgrades

Downgrades are considered transferring all content from a higher priced account, to a lower priced account. Examples include moving from a Reseller account (Aluminum $24.95), to a Shared account (Business $14.95). Dedicated (Basic $174) to Reseller (Gold $74.95). However if your "downgrade" is to a higher priced account, it is considered an upgrade. An example of this is moving from a level 3 VPS ($49.95) to a Diamond Reseller ($99.95).
