I have a host gator account and site with one domain name. I am closing another site with another hosting site, but I need that domain address forwarded to my existing hostgator site. How do I do this?

HostGator
Although it is safe to close the hosting account for your old domain, you must keep the old domain name registered if you want to use it.

Find out who you are registered with, and either continue to pay them the fee (typically under $20 per year) or move the registration to HostGator.

Either way, you may then add the new domain name to your HostGator hosting as a Parked domain, or as an Addon domain with a redirect.

I would like to move my domain to Hostgator, but its less then 60 days since I bought if from another domain registrar. How do I point my domain from my domain registrar to Hostgator so I can start building my website here?

HostGator
You don't need to transfer your domain name to HostGator before using it with HostGator hosting.

Just keep the domain name registered where you bought it, and only change the name servers (or DNS) to point to HostGator.

You can read how by searching "How do I change my DNS or name servers?" or visiting http://support.hostgator.com/articles/how-do-i-change-my-dns-or-name-servers

can i transfer the free domain any time i want to another registrar, and for how long its free, is that for the first year only or what ?

HostGator
Sure, you can transfer that domain name away from HostGator after 60 days. (Check the online form for other rules you must comply with.)

The domain will be transferred for free, and you get one year of registration for free. After that time, you pay for the registration as normal.

However, if your domain expires, is renewed and then transferred between registrars within the first 45 days after the expiration date, the domain will revert back the original expiration date. Then when we add one year, the expiration date appears to have not changed.

I have an account with a Canadian hosting company with a .ca domain and I would like to switch to your company. Can my present domain name be transfered to you and how can I do that?

HostGator
Yes, we can accept transfer of that domain registration. However, that domain name may not qualify for the free transfer.

You can attempt the domain transfer by submitting the online form, and we will let you know.
