We offer the ability for Reseller, SEO, VPS, and Dedicated Server packages to setup their own private DNS. We have now made this even easier when using our new registrar LaunchPad through our billing system.
Log into your billing account at https://gbclient.hostgator.com/ and follow these instructions:
In the left hand menu, under the Billing Details category, click on View Domain Names.
The domains that you have registered with LaunchPad should be listed here. Click on the one that you wish manage.
This next page is the Domain Management page, from here you can edit your DNS and WHOIS information. In the NS1 and NS2 fields should be your current Nameservers. You will want to change these Nameservers to the Nameservers you plan on using.
On the right of “Your Domain Nameservers” section you will see “Your Private Nameservers” section. You will fill out the Private Nameservers you are wanting to us and then the IPs in which they point.
Once you have filled out these fields select “Update Information,” and your Private Nameservers will be registered and your domain will the be pointed to them. Don't forget they will need to propagate for 24-48 hours. You can edit these DNS settings at anytime to make any necessary changes.
My private name servers are registered now what?
After your name servers have been created, you must add the necessary A records to your domain. Read the details here.
After the A record update, you and your clients will be able to use your private nameservers for all the domains which host with you.
Once a domain name is using your private name servers, it is important to check the DNS glue.
