Server specifications, specs

What kind of servers are you using for shared and reseller?

Our shared servers have Intel Xeon 5xxx Series Processors (E5xxx). We run CentOS 5.5 Enterprise Linux x86 or Windows Server 2008 R2. The servers have up to 12 GB of DDR2 or DDR3 RAM. The connection speed on our servers is 100 mbps (mega bits per second). We also have RAID10 and instant weekly backups of your content. Our data center is SoftLayer located in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Is the connection on our shared servers 10mbps burstable to 100mbps or 100mbps constant?

100mbps constant

Is the connection on our shared servers 100mbps up and down or just 100mbps total?

100mbps both up and down

What kind of servers are you using for VPS?

  • Dual Nehalem Quad Core CPU's @ 2.26ghz per core w/hyperthreading
  • 24GB DDR3 RAM w/ECC
  • 1.5TB RAID 10 (6 drives)
  • 100mbps uplink, shared over the container

What kind of servers are you using for Dedicated?

Dedicated Sever processor specifications (you need to order a new server to get the newest server specs):

Package Processor Type Speed/core Fab. Process Uplink
Basic Xeon 3360 Quad Core DDR 2.83 GHz 45 nm 10Mbps
Standard Xeon 3360 Quad Core DDR 2.83 GHz 45 nm 100Mbps
Elite Xeon 3450 Quad Core DDR 2.67 GHz 45 nm 100Mbps
Pro Xeon 3470 Quad Core DDR 2.93 GHz 45 nm 100Mbps

For older servers and unmanaged servers, the uplink (connection speed to your server) varies, and can be either 10mbps or 100mbps. Use the mii-tool command in shell to check:

[root@whatever ~]# mii-tool
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
SIOCGMIIPHY on 'eth1' failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
[root@whatever ~]#

The line which says "negotiated 100base" indicates a 100mbps connection.

Brad
How often are dedicated server specs upgraded? Can current dedi owners have their server upgraded when you come out with new specs?

HostGator
We do not force upgrades, but you can request them anytime. Simply email support@hostgator.com for possible automatic-upgrade options.
