I Forgot My Password and Need a Reset

Below you will find information on how to change passwords for various accounts related to your HostGator web hosting plan. Some password changes may require HostGator support; however, some passwords can be changed in just a few quick steps.


cPanel

Check your welcome email for the correct user name and password. If that password is not working, please refer to the following article for instructions on how to reset your cPanel password:

Note: If you change your control panel password, the password for the following will also be updated:

  • Main FTP account
  • Parallels Sitebuilder

Sitebuilder will have to be reconfigured since it relies on your cPanel password to function properly. In this case, please submit a ticket to request that Sitebuilder or SiteStudio be updated with your new password.

WHM

Check your welcome email for the correct user name and password. If that password is not working, please refer to the following article for instructions on how to reset your WHM password:

Billing

The login is your contact email address and the original password you signed up with.
If that password is not working, please do the following to reset the billing password:

  1. Go to https://portal.hostgator.com
  2. Click the Forgot Your Password link.
  3. Provide the email address associated with your billing account.
  4. In the email that you receive, follow the instructions to reset the billing password.
If you do NOT get an email with a new password, please contact HostGator via phone or live chat.

Parallels SiteBuilder

Check your ticket for the original user name and password. If the credentials listed do not work, please submit a ticket to our Sales department to request the correct login information.

Email

To change the password for an email account:

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. In the Mail section, click the Email Accounts icon.
  3. In the table which lists all email accounts, click Change Password next to the account you wish to change.

You will not need the old password to set a new one.

Reseller's Customer

Resellers can reset the password for a customer by doing the following:

  1. Log into WHM.
  2. Go to Account Functions.
  3. Click Password Modification.
  4. Select the account domain name or username for the account password you wish to modify.
  5. Under Password Entry, type the new password.
  6. Click Change Password.
Note: Changing a customer's password will reset the password for cPanel, SiteStudio, SiteBuilder and the main FTP account.

Database

A new user with a new password must be created if the password cannot be retrieved through the site configuration file.

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. In the Databases section, click MySQL Databases.
  3. In the MySQL Users section, add a new user with the desired password.
  4. Click Create User to add the new user to the database.
  5. Change your site configuration settings to the new user name and password.
Note: Making these changes will not erase or change any of the data in your database.

Website Admin

If the software was installed via QuickInstall you can reset the password from within cPanel by accessing the installation via QuickInstall. If the software was manually installed, HostGator may not be able to reset your Website Admin password due to custom configurations.
