Changing MX, A, CNAME Records - Plesk 11.5

Plesk 11.5 is the version of Plesk available on all HostGator Windows Shared servers. The following article details how to add, modify, and delete DNS records in Plesk 11.5.

Change an Existing DNS Zone Record

To edit your DNS zone records:

  1. Log into Plesk.
  2. Click the Websites & Domains tab, then click the relevant domain:

  3. Locate and click DNS Settings:

  4. From here you may take the following actions:
    • Click on the name of an existing record to edit its details (Click OK to save changes).
    • Place a check next to unwanted entries and click Remove to delete records.

    • Click Add a Record to create a new record. See below for more details.

The same steps will be taken to modify any other pre-existing DNS zone records. After making your changes, please allow between 4 to 8 hours for changes to propagate.


Adding DNS Zone Records

To add the specified records in Plesk, please follow the steps listed below from the DNS Editor:

MX Records
  1. Click Add Record:

  2. From the drop-down menu, change the Record type to MX (if necessary).
  3. Mail domain should be left blank.
  4. Set the mail exchange server to the name of your mail server (for example ghs.google.com).
  5. The party who gave you the mail exchange server name may also have given you a priority number; if not, very high(0) is fine.
  6. Click OK.
A Records
  1. Click Add Record:

  2. From the drop-down menu, change the Record type to A (if necessary).
  3. For Domain name, enter the subdomain you want to host.
  4. For IP Address, enter the IP of your desired server.
  5. Click OK.
CNAME Records
  1. Click Add Record:

  2. From the drop-down menu, change the Record type to CNAME (if necessary).
  3. For Domain name, put in the subdomain you want to host.
  4. For Canonical name, enter the name of your desired server.
  5. Click OK.
