Why do I have to verify my new order?

We carefully evaluate new accounts to determine high risk orders. Please do not take it personally if you are asked to verify a new account, as you may have been selected randomly.

If you are serious about hosting with HostGator.com, then please verify your account so we can proceed to activate it.

How do I verify my new account?

Verifying by Phone Call

In order for us to setup your account, we will need you to call us.

Overseas customers have the option of using Skype to call us toll-free by calling +18669642867. (More Details)

If You Are Unable to Call

If you are unable to call us, you can instead send email to sales@hostgator.com with a scanned copy of a photo ID such as a passport or driver's license. In addition to your photo ID, please include a scanned copy of the credit card that was used in your account purchase (assuming you purchased a hosting account with a credit card). You may censor all but the last 4 digits of the credit card number for your protection, but please ensure the name and expiration date are legible.

Please provide us with the above requested information at your earliest convenience to ensure that your account with HostGator is setup as soon as possible. We are available 24/7, so please feel free to call us at your convenience. We apologize for any inconveniences that may result from this process.

Additional Verification

Some signups may be subject to additional verification, to ensure the credit card holder or PayPal account owner has authorized the purchase. This additional verification is done for your protection. If additional verification is necessary, we will contact you via email with instructions.

Activating an Account After 48 Hours / Automatic Refunds

If you are contacted to verify your order, and we do not hear from you within 48 hours, we will automatically refund your initial payment. We don't want to accidentally keep your money, in case you decide not to call us and verify. Since we automatically refunded your payment, you would need to pay again to activate your account.

Not Wanting to Verify Your Order

Don't worry, you can choose to NOT pay and we will not activate your account. Also, your first payment is already returned. If you want to pay later, we will be glad to activate your account and start your billing cycle on the day you pay.

when i want to buy new domain,why do i need to verify my banking info,secondly even i had bought a hosting/domain from hostgator before?

Currently, the domain registrations are separate from your HostGator billing account.

In the new GatorBill system, we will make it easier.

I am interested, this verification is applyed to everyone, or is it random? Or is it applyed only for certain countries? And somebody please explain how could I make a virtual screenshot of my physical plastic visa magnetic card?

We apply this screening to all new customers when there is a discrepancy in the sign up information. Existing customers are not subjected to this screening.

Please use a digital camera, even the one built into your cellular phone.

I just received a mail to required my verification. I was initially furious until I grew up and realized it was for my own safety. Well done guys. Wish there was another way to do this quicker but for now... Well done.

I am satisfied with this verification process. My previous hoster didn't do it up front at sign up. However, after more than 5 years with them, without a warning, they just took my website offline! It lasted about 3 days. And I was pissed off, let me say.

Hostgator observed that I was communicating with them from a foreign location and French IP. The ids and payment justifications they asked me for are strictly the same my previous hoster asked me for. But they did not wait 5 years, and I thank them for that.

I hope now is that my info is kept safely and checked upon when the question of my foreign IP comes again.
