Account Limits Summary

When hosting a site with HostGator, regardless of the size of the site or the server, there are limitations for users depending on the resources available on their respective servers. This article will assist in understanding these limitations.

CPU Resource Usage

CPU usage is the amount of tasks and processes that are running on a computer at any given time. This limitation is applicable to all HostGator servers. For more information on these limits, please review the following article:

Shared and Reseller Accounts

There is a limit of 25% CPU usage that is applied on a per cPanel basis.

VPS and Dedicated Server Accounts

These accounts are allowed to use 100% of the CPU; however, VPS customers will need to note that what they use is only a portion of the server's total resources.

Processes Limit

Processes are a series of actions or functions occurring on a server at any one time. This limitation is applicable to all HostGator servers. For more information on these limits, please review the following articles:

VPS and Dedicated Server Accounts

These customers have the ability to adjust the number of processes with no enforced limit. This limitation also applies to SQL connections.

Inode Limits

An inode stores basic information about a regular file, directory or other file system object. The number of inodes indicates the number of files and folders you have. The inode limitation is applicable to all HostGator servers, excluding Dedicated Servers. For more information on these limits, please review the following articles:

Shared and Reseller Accounts

There is a soft limit of 100,000 files per cPanel; however, accounts that exceed over 250,000 files will be in direct violation of our Terms of Service and will be susceptible to being suspended.

VPS Accounts

For VPS customers, the inode limit is set to one million inodes. If you need a higher inode limit than one million inodes, HostGator recommends hosting on a dedicated server.

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred to and from your account in one month. Every time someone downloads a 10 kB file from your website, they use 10 kB of bandwidth from your account. Also, every time someone visits your site, they are downloading the home page and use that much bandwidth. More information can be found in the following articles:
